Summer? We Hardly Knew Her: Our Summer 2023 Recap

Hey everyone!

We hope you had an amazing summer! All of us at MARS certainly did, and we would love to share what we've been up to these past few months.

Lunabotics Competition at the University of Alabama

In May, ten of us went to the University of Alabama to participate in their in-person Lunabotics competition. Despite encountering a few bumps in the road, both literally and figuratively, we were able to learn a lot from other teams and even had some time to have fun and get closer as teammates.

Lacy Hall Room Reorganization

While we anxiously awaited the new competition guidebook, some of us were able to partake in reorganizing our Lacy Hall room. Connor Lyons, our mechanical subteam lead and outreach chair, led this effort. Thanks to his dedication despite the task of sorting washers slowly taking a toll on him, our Lacy room now feels more like a second home every day.

Recruiting, recruiting, recruiting!

Soon it was time to prepare for a new school year as students began the chaotic process of moving back onto grounds. During this time, exec members were hard at work on promoting MARS at the annual Fall Activities Fair and Engineering Expo, at a few intro to engineering classes, and at the two interest meetings we had earlier this week! All of our work paid off, as we got more than three hundred responses in our interest form and at least 140 total people at our interest meetings!

We can't wait to see all of our hard work pay off at the first General Body Meeting for both new and returning members tomorrow! We're excited to meet everyone and are looking forward to another season, lunar regolith bumps and all!

Stay tuned for more updates, and we hope to see you all again soon!
