Snow Much to Talk About! November and December 2023 Recap!

Hey everyone! So much has happened from our last update, so let’s get started!

A Goodbye to Our Current President

Before we get into it, I want to take a moment to say goodbye to our current president, Craig Kalkwarf. As you may or may not know, Craig was accepted to be a NASA Pathways intern next semester! This means that he will work at the Kennedy Space Center during the spring and then work at NASA after he graduates! While we are incredibly proud of Craig, we shall miss his mechanical shenanigans very much and cannot wait to see you again soon!

In the meantime, because of his absence, we shall have a new president and vice president for the spring semester. Our new president is (drum roll please) ... Madelyn Khoury!

Our new vice president is (another drum roll please) ...Swedha Skandakumar!

I’m so excited to see these women in power next semester!

Additionally, Connor Lyons has decided to step down as Outreach CoChair while retaining his Mechanical Lead position. After letting the general body apply to be next the Outreach CoChair, the newest Outreach CoChair is (final drumroll) … Jordan Ho (picture coming soon)!

I’m so excited to work with everyone and what amazing things they'll do this semester!

Onwards to the recap!

Engineering Expo

November started with a bang! Er, an expo!

We showed off our beloved Rocks-Anne, who was able to (gasp) move smoothly! We were able to demonstrate her beautiful excavating skills and maneuvering skills to the public!

Welding Training

Thanks to Motorsports’ Ashlin Schultz, a few of our MARS members have been able to start learning how to weld! This is a very exciting opportunity, and we can’t wait to see what we can do with welding thanks to Ashlin’s guidance!

Gingerbread House Building

To end the fall semester on a high note, we decided to celebrate the holiday season by having a gingerbread house building social event! Although there was frosting, there was no frostiness to be found among members as they sipped hot cocoa and decorated their gingerbread houses!

Rock Showcase

After the party was over, Craig got to work on a project due 1.5 years ago: our rock showcase!

For context, at the 2021 Nasa Lunabotics Competition, we mined the biggest rock the judges had ever seen! Craig was then tasked to make a beautiful rock showcase displaying that rock and all the other rocks we gathered during our matches. Before leaving grounds, he got to work to make a beautiful polycarb showcase! Check it out below!

Coming up!

While everyone in MARS were off grounds for the holiday season, we have been hard at work making sure everything is done by the CDR!  Hope you all stick around for our February blog post and follow our social media, but for now, take care!

See you all again soon,

Cayla
